Maintenance in robot TCO models is almost always a percentage. Our own five-year TCO model used the common industry figure of 3–8% of hardware cost per year, because that is what the integrators publish. Nobody publishes what the parts cost.
One dealer does. Automation Distribution lists 96 unique Universal Robots spare-part SKUs with prices and add-to-cart buttons — and it is the same dealer whose UR arm list prices I used for the payload price curve on July 28. That makes the comparison unusually clean: parts and machines quoted by one seller, in one currency, at one date. All figures read August 2, 2026.

The spread: $17 to $17,260
The cheapest listed part is a CR2450 battery at $17.00. The dearest is a dual calibration tool at $17,260.00 — a 1,015× range, and worth pausing on, because that tool is not a spare part at all. At $17,260 it is 39.6–44.2% of a complete UR5e. A shop that needs to recalibrate in-house is buying something priced like half a robot.
Joints: the number that breaks the percentage rule

A UR e-Series arm has six joints. Three Size 2 wrist joints alone come to $19,521 — 44.8% to 49.9% of what the same dealer charges for a complete UR5e. Step up to Size 2.5 wrists and it is $22,095, or 50.7–56.5%.
Go further. A full set of six on a heavier arm — three Size 4 joints at $8,850 and three Size 2 wrists at $6,507 — totals $46,071. That is 82.8–90.7% of a complete UR12e, and 105.8–117.9% of a UR5e. Rebuilding an arm joint by joint, at list, costs more than buying the arm.
That single fact is why the 3–8%-per-year rule of thumb is misleading rather than wrong. On a $39,083 UR5e, 3–8% is $1,172–3,127 per year. One out-of-warranty Size 2 wrist joint consumes 2.1 to 5.5 years of that entire budget. One controller box consumes 3.2 to 8.4 years of it. The percentage rule describes a robot that does not break structurally. It is a filter-and-grease budget, not a repair budget.
This is also why the warranty clock matters more than it looks. When we read six manufacturers' warranty terms, the start point varied between shipment, delivery and installation — a difference of weeks or months. At $6,507 per wrist joint, a warranty that quietly started at shipment while the robot sat in a crate is not an administrative detail.
Refurbished joints save about a fifth, not a half
The dealer stocks "B-Stock" joints alongside new ones, which lets us price the refurbished discount directly:

Median discount: 20.1%. The intuition that used parts are roughly half price does not hold here — and on the Size 1 elbow, a B-Stock unit saves $265, which is unlikely to compensate for whatever warranty difference comes with it. Refurbished joints are a real option on the large sizes and close to pointless on the small ones.
Controllers, pendants and the cheap half of the catalog

A controller box plus a teach pendant is $13,327, or 30.6–34.1% of the arm. Everything below that line, though, is genuinely cheap: sealing sets $143, lids $255–420 by model, terminals $127, fuses $154 per ten, controller filters $120 for five, a light pipe $55, a power cable $60, the CR2450 battery $17. 32 of the 96 SKUs are priced under $500, and 18 under $200 — but the median SKU in the catalog is $4,380. Preventive maintenance really is inexpensive; it is the structural failures that are not, and structurally is where most of this catalog lives.
The cable curve, and a listing that contradicts itself
Robot-to-controller extension cords price non-linearly, as cable usually does:

The long runs get dramatically more expensive in absolute terms while getting cheaper per metre — and the same catalog carries a second 12 m high-flex listing at $2,545, 19.2% above the first, with near-identical wording. Where a machine needs distance, the jump is brutal: a 40 m range extender cable is $6,430, and a base-mounted 40 m range extender is $15,376, more than a third of a UR5e.
A second source, and its limits
To check whether one dealer's parts pricing is representative, I pulled a second US storefront, inrobots.shop (currency confirmed USD). The only strictly comparable SKU is a teach-pendant cable: $440.00 there against $255.00 at Automation Distribution, 72.5% higher. Its CB-series teach pendant at $899 cannot be compared with the $3,465 e-Series unit — different generation. Two of its six listings are priced at $0.00, which is a contact form wearing a price tag.
So: single-dealer list prices, one date, and a parts market thin enough that a second source disagrees by 70% on the one item both stock. Read the ratios, not the decimals. The ratios are what hold: wrist joints are roughly half an arm, a controller and pendant are roughly a third, refurbished saves about a fifth, and the annual-percentage maintenance rule survives only until the first joint fails.
