Rover Robotics (Open Avatar Inc.) builds ROS 2 ground robots in the United States — skid-steer development platforms that research groups and integrators use as a rolling base for sensors, arms and autonomy stacks. It is a category we have not priced before, and it turns out to be one of the strangest price disclosures we have run into: the storefront shows no prices at all, while the store's own data publishes them to the cent.
The prices exist, but the buttons do not
Open any Rover product page — MEGA, MAX, the 4WD Rover Pro — and the buy path is a "Request a Quote" button with no number next to it. But the same store publishes prices in its product feed and its structured data, and the collection page's own price filter tops out at $39,999.00, which is exactly what the feed says the MEGA costs. Treat what follows as published list prices, not as prices you can click through and pay — the same "listed but not transactable" pattern we hit on demolition robots and on second-tier humanoids.

Payload capacity is not what you are paying for
Rover publishes payload figures twice — on the platform page and on the matching payload-box listing — and the two disagree on every model: mini 100 lb vs 150 lb, MAX 250 lb vs 200 lb, MEGA 500 lb vs 400 lb. Whichever set you use, the direction is the same:

Cost per pound of carrying capacity rises 2–4× as you go up the line. That is the opposite of the demolition robots we priced last week, where the big machine was 26.5% cheaper per pound. Here the money goes into drivetrain, IP rating, battery and ground clearance — not into load.
Options are priced in dollars, not percentages
Mecanum wheels cost +$5,000 on the mini and +$5,400 on the MĪTI — nearly the same money on both, which means the same option is +128.2% of a mini and +56.8% of a MĪTI. Within MAX, wheel size is a clean $1,000 per step: $13,000 → $14,000 (13") → $15,000 (15").
The legacy catalogue contains the opposite philosophy. All 32 variants of the Rover Zero 3 cost $6,999.99 — wheels, compute, payload box and charging dock make no difference to the price — while the 2WD Rover Pro prices every option separately (+$950 charging dock, +$1,600 NUC and controller, +$2,400 outdoor payload). Two pricing systems in one store; the catalogue does not say which is intentional.
What a working robot actually costs
The $3,900 mini is a chassis. To make it autonomous from the same catalogue:

That is 2.28× the platform price before a single application-specific sensor. Add Rover Voyageur Core autonomy software at $4,999 — which by itself costs 28% more than the cheapest robot in the line — and you are at $13,897.99.
The payload boxes scale oddly too: mini $1,999, MITI $2,999, MAX $3,999, MEGA $5,999 — that is 51.3% of a mini but only 15.0% of a MEGA. Sensors follow the usual pattern: 3D lidar $6,000, RPLidar S2 $549, RealSense D435i $499.99, Oak-D Pro $499.99, RTK GPS module $520.
Two details worth knowing before you budget
Charging docks. The dock for MAX, MĪTI and mini is $950; the MEGA dock is $1,450 and carries a struck-through "was $950" — a strike-through *below* the asking price. The dock for the older Zero and Pro chassis is $1,999, more than twice the current-generation dock.
Engineering time is on the shelf. Fifteen SKUs priced at a flat $200 each cover unit assembly, payload integration, network setup, QA workflow, packaging architecture and video deliverables, alongside a $21,000 customer assembly and a $4,100 base station left visible in the public catalogue. A three-year maintenance agreement is $599 ($899 for MEGA). Rover is the second robot company we have seen sell labour as catalogue line items, after Robotiq.
Where it sits
For context from our own reading: AgileX SCOUT 2.0 was $9,980 and Bunker Pro 2.0 $12,889 at a US dealer on 31 July; a SuperDroid GPK-32 4WD inspection robot with a 10× zoom camera lists at $6,000 today. Rover's MAX at $13,000 is priced in that band; the MEGA at $39,999 is in a class of its own in this catalogue and has no public comparator we could check.
