Toumai is MicroPort MedBot's four-arm laparoscopic surgical robot and the most credible Chinese challenger to Intuitive's da Vinci. The one verified Toumai price
The most useful public data point is a real, awarded contract rather than an estimate:

That single figure is worth more than a dozen vendor estimates, because it is what a hospital actually paid under public procurement rules. For budgeting in 2026, RMB 10–12M (roughly $1.4–1.7M) is the defensible band for a Toumai four-arm system inside China.
Be careful with a second number that circulates widely. In November 2024, Ganzhou Municipal Hospital published a RMB 7.5M procurement for an endoscopic surgical instrument control system, reported as a new low. That RMB 7.5M was a budget ceiling, not an award price, and no brand was confirmed — it is not a Toumai price and should not be quoted as one.

Two things fall out of this table. First, Toumai undercuts a new da Vinci 5 meaningfully — though note the Toumai figure is an awarded Chinese tender price while the da Vinci numbers are US-market estimates, so the two are not like-for-like. Either way it is not a budget device — this is a multi-million-dollar capital purchase either way. Second, single-port systems cost more than four-arm systems, not less. If someone quotes you a single-port robot at four-arm money, check what is actually in the configuration.
The purchase price is the smaller half of the bill
This is the part most capital plans get wrong. Approximately 84% of Intuitive's revenue is recurring (FY2025: $8.47B of $10.06B) — instruments, accessories, and service, not system sales. The economics of the category are built on consumables, and the same structure applies to Chinese entrants.
What that means in practice: instrument arms are life-limited and priced per use, so a program running 300 cases a year can spend more on consumables over five years than it spent on the robot. Before comparing two systems on sticker price, get both vendors to quote cost per case at your projected volume, plus the annual service contract. A system that is $400k cheaper up front can lose that advantage in under three years on instrument pricing alone.
The market is also moving away from pure capital purchase. Pay-per-click and leasing structures shift the robot from capex to opex with little money down, which changes the comparison entirely — a lower-priced system is worth less if its per-procedure fee is higher.
What to confirm before you buy
Regulatory access is the first gate, not the price. Toumai holds NMPA approval in China, including for the Toumai SP single-port system. Approval status outside China varies by jurisdiction and is the item to verify first — a favorable price is irrelevant if the system cannot be registered in your market.
Beyond that, the questions that actually move the number:
- Cost per case at your projected annual volume, with the instrument life spelled out
- Service contract: annual cost, uptime guarantee, on-site response time, and local parts inventory
- Training and proctoring: how many surgeons are covered, and who pays for the ramp-up cases
- Telesurgery capability: Toumai's remote-surgery record is a genuine differentiator, but confirm what the network and regulatory requirements are in your region
- Installed base near you: with 200+ installations, ask for a reference site running comparable case mix and call them
Bottom line
Budget $1.4–1.7M for a Toumai four-arm system based on verified Chinese tender data, against roughly $2.0–2.5M for a new da Vinci 5. That gap is real, but it is a fraction of what you will spend on instruments and service over the life of the program. Price the consumables and the service contract before you price the robot — and confirm regulatory approval in your market before you do either.
