Every teardown of a humanoid robot reaches the same conclusion: the hands are the most expensive single component. Morgan Stanley's estimate for an Optimus Gen2-class machine, which we broke down in our bill-of-materials analysis, put the hands at about $9,500 of a roughly $55,000 build — 17.3%, and the largest single line item.
That is the theory. On 11 August 2026 I priced the hands themselves — 8 brands, dozens of variants, two US storefronts (US Robot Store and Maverick Drone Systems), currency confirmed as USD from each store's cart endpoint. There are three defensible ways to answer "what does a robot hand cost," and they disagree by more than an order of magnitude.
Measurement 1: the shelf

The shelf spans $380 to $35,000 — 92× — for objects that all attach to the end of a humanoid arm. And the top of that shelf is not a rounding error against the robot: a sensing pair of Unitree Dex5-1P at $47,000 is 217.6% of a Unitree G1 Basic ($21,600) and 107.1% of a G1 Edu Standard ($43,900). A pair of BrainCo Revo 3 Vision hands at $70,000 is 94.7% of the most expensive G1 Edu configuration on the same site. AGIBOT's own OmniHand Pro, at $19,999, is 66.7% of AGIBOT's own X2 robot.
Measurement 2: the configuration option
Buy the hand as part of the robot and the arithmetic changes completely. Booster's T2, priced in today's humanoid guide, sells its end-effectors as configuration steps:

Two things fall out. The same option costs $1,000 more on the more expensive robot — the gripper is $10,000 on the Edu and $11,000 on the Pro, the dexterous hand $16,000 and $17,000. Options priced off the base machine rather than off the part are a pattern we have now seen in three unrelated catalogues, most sharply on underwater ROVs where an identical manipulator changed price with the battery you chose.
And the tactile step is enormous. On the shelf, adding tactile sensing to the same hand costs +9.9% to +29.4% across five independent measurements (Inspire RH56E2 +9.9%, Unitree Dex5-1 +12.5%, Inspire RH56F1 +15.4%, Unitree Dex3-1 +16.7%, BrainCo Revo 3 +29.4%; the outlier is BrainCo's older Revo 2 at +64.8%). Inside the Booster configurator, going from dexterous hands to high-DoF tactile hands costs +116.4%, and going from the bare Pro to the tactile build costs +213.2%.
*Our view:* the tactile build is plainly more than a sensor upgrade — it is also a higher-DoF hand — but no combination of shelf prices gets you to $81,000 for a pair. Two $35,000 BrainCo Revo 3 Vision hands, the most expensive pair on the open shelf, come to $70,000, and those include vision. The top configuration is priced on what the buyer will pay for the finished capability, not on what the parts list.
Measurement 3: the teardown
Against all that, the 17.3% BOM figure looks conservative — and it probably is not wrong. A manufacturer building its own hands at volume, into its own robot, on its own line, is in a different cost world from a research lab buying two hands retail with a connector option and a left/right SKU. The gap between 17.3% and 30–217% is not a manufacturing gap. It is the gap between a cost and a price.
Three catalogue findings worth knowing before you order
1. Pair pricing is unreliable. Buying two hands as a pair saves 1.5% to 6.5% at Inspire, Wuji and PaXini. At Unitree it does neither consistently: the sensing pair (Dex5-1P) is $47,000 against $53,000 for a left plus a right (−11.3%), while the *non-sensing* pair is $50,000 against $48,000 for two singles — the pair costs 4.2% more than buying them separately. The same listing also prices a left Dex5-1P at $27,000 and a right at $26,000.
2. The same hand is not the same price. Inspire's RH56DFX is $5,600 at one US dealer and $8,199 at the other — +46.4%. Unitree's Dex3-1 runs the other way: $5,199 at the second dealer against $6,000 at the first (+15.4%), and its tactile version is $7,000 against $10,800 (+54.3%). Neither seller is the cheap one; it is a per-line-item decision, exactly as we found across five drone dealers today.
3. Check the DoF number against the part number. One listing sells the Inspire RH56DFX as a "56-DOF Robotic Hand." Inspire's own documentation describes the RH56 series as six actuated degrees of freedom across twelve joints, with the remaining motion underactuated through linkages. "56" is the series name. I priced the hand; I did not adopt the specification in its title.
What this means if you are budgeting
- Budget the hands as a second machine, not an accessory. At the capable end they are 60–220% of the robot.
- Price them standalone before you tick the configurator box, on at least two sellers.
- If you need tactile sensing, buy it at the part level where it costs 10–30%, not at the platform level where it can cost triple.
- A five-finger dexterous hand now costs about the same as a serious industrial two-finger gripper — Robotiq's 2F-85 was $9,271.41 and OnRobot's 3FG25 $6,988 in our earlier dealer reads — which tells you how far the dexterous-hand market has come down, and how much of the humanoid price is still being carried by the wrist forward.
